Pesticide removal with activated carbon filter system

A Danish utility company has installed activated carbon filter systems from Grundfos Water Treatment (formerly Eurowater) to comply with the Danish authorities' limit values for pesticide residues (alachlor ESA) and organic solvents in drinking water.

The water is treated by passing a partial flow from open sand filters through two activated carbon filters, while the remaining partial flow is led directly to the clean water tank. The partial flow from the carbon filters is further treated in a UV system before being oxygenated with compressed air and mixed with the untreated partial flow in the clean water tank. The choice of carbon type was based on pilot tests carried out with Grundfos' test system at the waterworks.

The utility company is building a new, large waterworks, so the carbon filter system is installed outside the old waterworks building. The carbon filter system is designed to be moved to the new location when the new waterworks is commissioned.
